Update Windows to 24H2 on Arm

If you want to avoid typos when trying to do this, here's another method you can use to get this into the registry
  1. Open Notepad
  2. Copy and Paste the text below into Notepad
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windowsupdate]
    "TargetReleaseVersion"=dword:00000001
    "ProductVersion"="Windows 11"
    "TargetReleaseVersionInfo"="24H2"
  3. File > Save As
  4. Save the file on your desktop as Update.reg
  5. Go to your desktop and double click Update.reg
  6. You'll be asked if you're sure you want to import - click yes
  7. Go to Windows update, the update should be available now.
  8. To remove the registry entires, you can repeat the same procedure using the code below saved as Delete.reg
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windowsupdate]
The 24H2 Update was not offered to me, although I run Parallels Desktop 20 for Mac Pro v20.1.2 and had an up-to-date Windows 11 23H2.

I did the above registry hack.
I restarted Windows.
The 24H2 update was then shown for update and update began downloading and installing.
Restart of Windows to finish installation.
Update ran successfully. System info shows:
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 24H2
Installiert am ‎02.‎12.‎2024
Betriebssystembuild 26100.2314
Leistung Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.32.0
Another restart to update Parallels Tools.
Done.

Thank you for the registry hack!

Have you experienced any problems, bugs, or programs that don't work? USB devices all ok?

Just applied the \Windowsupdate hack and was able to update to 24H2 with no problem. However with further reading I discovered that unless the registry entry is removed, updates will not proceed to the next version of Windows 11 when it comes out.

Can you provide a source of this info for further reading. And also can a Parallels representative also write a reply regarding this issue? We are paying for your product and expect a little more involvement on your side. Thanks

Still no update.

I tried the registry hack. nothing
I tried the group policy edit (same as the registry hack). Still nothing.

I don't have any idea how it works, but I can't obtain this update. I think something to set up in parallels or in an update of parallels.

Hi,
Does anybody know an official information from Parallels why Windows 11 VM for Arm builded using their creator stuck on 22H2?

Best regards
Arek

Creating a new registry key "Windowsupdate" in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows with the three value as shown here seems to have worked for me...

This worked like a charm! Once the registry keys were created and I rebooted, Windows Update began the download process for 24H2 and installed/updated as expected. Thank you!!!

New info.
Maybe it was a problem with my license.
I had to reinstall Macos Sequoia and parallels. When I tried to put my license key it said "invalid".
I buy another license, OEM, and it was valid and I can activated windows.

So many problems with the update is the license key.

The registry hack worked for me (22H2 -> 24H2) on Desktop 20 for Mac (20.1.2). After upgrade, I went ahead and removed the Windowsupdate registry key (folder).

Microsoft rolls out Windows Updates in phases. As of December 4, 2024, it is still not available to all devices. See the latest information at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2

If you want to get the update earlier, here is a recap of potential options (not officially recommended by Parallels or Microsoft):
1. See the registry hack recommended by the Parallels forum community: View attachment 22893 (create the key and dont' forget to remove) or #45.
Still doesn't work? You might have the Maintenance feature enabled. You can check and disable it in the VM configuration > Options tab > Maintenance.
2. Multiple threads on the Microsoft forums involve PC users asking the same question. Microsoft MVPs and users on this forum recommended installing the update using the ISO (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11ARM64). See #53

Registry hacks are no longer required, Microsoft updater now offers Windows 24H2 to all the regular installations.
No it doesn't. At least it won't for me. Still on 23H2 running Windows 11 Pro and latest Parallels Version 20.1.2 (55742). I even tried the copy and paste registry hack (several times) and it still will not update to 24H2.

Late to this game, but hats off to RichardR21. This worked perfectly. I was stuck at 23H2 and Windows Update was like "Screw you, can't do it on this system." I'm going to bookmark this page in case this happens next year.

Quick questions:
1. How in God's name did you figure this out? I'm guessing years of coding experience, but still...
2. I grabbed my Win 11 Pro code from Stacksocial. They were really cheap; like "fall off the back of a truck" cheap, but it appears to be a legit license. Could that be the reason I couldn't upgrade?

Nope - still no 24H2 in Windows Update for me. Currently running the latest update of Parallels Version 20.1.3 (55743) and Windows 11 Pro on 23H2
