Confirm that this fix definitely works and is still current as of July 12 2024. Surprised that this fix is not listed in Parallels troubleshooting guide as this appears to be a common problem. I experienced the identical issue previously and unfortunately ended up reinstalling window 10 to fix and as a result lost a lot of time.I had the same problem today, presumable from a Windows update. Restarting Windows or even restarting my MacBook Pro would just cause the black screen and spinning circle to resume upon startup. I found a solution elsewhere on this Community message board - Hold down the 'Option' key and use the Parallels pulldown menu to go to Parallels > Actions > Stop. That fixed it immediately for me.
Good luck!
I've just experience the issue after my update to P20, and the chatbot told me 2 things: first do a reset, and if that doesn't help, go to Control center Configuration of the VM, Hardware, CPU, Advanced, and set the Hypervisor to Apple.
That did it for me.

This was so annoying. I did a Time Machine restore which worked then got the same issue. That messed up my backups. It all stemmed from one setting.Spent a couple of hours after the P20 update trying to get past the "black screen of death." This was the fix! Thanks!!
Shame on Parallels for allowing something so basic in an upgrade to cause such an issue. You guys are usually rock solid. Did you somehow hire the person from CloudStrike to work on this update?
This worked for me. I've got an Intel Core i9 rather than Apple Silicon but I had the same problem and the solution also worked for me.
