macOS Big Sur and Parallels Desktop

Parallels 16 was causing a MacOS panic and reboot with Big Sur release 20A5354i. Changing from Parallels hypervisor to Apple fixed this problem also.

If you are on the VM preferences dialog and these settings are disabled because the VM is suspended then just select the Actions-Stop menu. That will force the VM to shutdown and allow you to make this change. Worked like a charm for me!
Yep, that did it. Thanks!

I updated to the most recent beta of Big Sur last night, and now whenever I try to start a VM, my entire machine crashes and shuts down.

How does one change to the apple hypervisor?

Issue is related to Parallels hypervisor kext. You can switch to the Apple hypervisor under "Hardware - > CPU & Memory -> Advanced Settings" of your VM's settings, works for now until Parallels can fix it with an update.

If you are on the VM preferences dialog and these settings are disabled because the VM is suspended then just select the Actions-Stop menu. That will force the VM to shutdown and allow you to make this change. Worked like a charm for me!

What worked for me.....Drag the Parallels Desktop icon from your applications folder to the trash.....then open the App Store and download Parallels Desktop. Install it from the App Store. It's not 16, but it works just fine.

Last time I change from Apple hypervisor to Parallels hypervisor because of issue CPU high (Windows 10 in parallels hanging). Is this still have that issue when you switch to Apple hypervisor?
Doesn't seem Parallels Desktop have any update so far.

Yes, it is dog slow. Ive been unpacking a zip for 30min. Terrible.

Since updating to Big Sur Public Beta 2 20A5354i, I am unable to boot virtual machines with the Parallels Hypervisor as others have reported.
Switching to Apple Hypervisor does allow the virtual machine to boot, but networking does not work under Ubuntu nor Windows 10.
Any ideas?

It works fine ! Thank you !

I don't see how to change my hypervisor to Apple if the loading up Parallels causes my machine to reboot or shutdown. Can someone tell me how? Is there an plist file I can change? When I load Parallels, my machine shutdown after a fan surge.

What I did last that seems to work (for now)...
1) Boot into safe mode.
2) Move everything from "
/Applications/Parallels Desktop.app/Contents/Library/Extensions/10.9/" to a save folder elsewhere.
I saw the following 4 in that folder: prl_hypervisor.kext prl_netbridge.kext prl_usb_connect.kext prl_vnic.kext
3) Reboot normally.
4) Change all VMs to the Apple Hypervisor.
From here seems my Windows 10 VM has networking, etc. without any issues.
I would play from here to see which one is the culprit, but from what I have read on this thread I expect it to be prl_hypervisor.kext being at fault with the newest public beta.

Hi,
I successfully installed macOS Big Sur Public Beta 2 using Parallels 16. However, the resolution is stuck at 1024 * 768. I've installed & reinstalled parallels tools, no success.
Is it a known issue?

Apple Hypervisor is very unresponsive, and as soon as I try to start a program in the VM (e.g. Edge, Windows Explorer, Visual studio), it freezes and I just have to restart VM - completely unusable - really not happening to anyone else??? - this is really not a work around at all!
