Windows can't start network driver [code 10]

Windows XP on Parallels 5 on 10.6.2, all updated. MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM.

In XP device manager the parallels internet card shows up with a yellow flag and the title message.

Virtual Machine - configure- doesn't show an interface card or allow one to be added!

General Preferences - network- "restore defaults" doesn't change anything, nor does changing the DHCP range.

I suspect this is an XP issue but am stuck. I never used networking from the windows environment before though I've been using Parallels for almost a year.

Interesting.. please try to reinstall Parallels Tools. To do this

1. Uninstall Parallels Tools from add or remove programs(start menu/control panel), after uninstalling, restart Windows.

2. Install Parallels Tools from virtual machine tab on top menu bar.
 
Thanks, that did the job. Uninstalling Parallel Tools took a looooong time - I thought it was hung and walked away, but when I came back it had completed. I probably aborted out of it the time before, assuming Windows was hung, causing a bad re-install.

Another forum thread included a hint on forcing Virtual Machine-configure to show additional hardware options by launching with the command key pressed - I still haven't found this documented , but then I have a Parallels 4 manual. This was important the first night when I worked around the situation by "installing" another ethernet card -probably the real Apple card instead of the broken parallels virtual card. Somehow it worked!

But now I'm running it the right way.

Finally, I've got to say Parallels 5 is noticeably faster that P4, even just the normal MS Office stuff I need it for.
