Windows 11 login chime sound very distorted and crackly

Windows 11 login chime sound very distorted and crackly on new M1 16" fully loaded - has anyone any ideas why and how to fix this? Many thanks in advance.
 
Am having this same issue on a brand new fully loaded M2. How ANNOYING! Cannot run Zoom session without audio crackling every few minutes. Outlook notifications sound one second of distorted static before finally hearing the 'ding'. Happened in Windows 10, too.

Sometimes a restart of Windows helps but not always and if it does the distorted sound returns within the same working day. Did I mention how ANNOYING this is?

Any suggestions welcome.
 
I had this problem in 2022, with all sound from the Windows 11 VM suffering distortion. I tried a load of things but could not find a fix. I gave up on Parallels.
It's now 2024 and I thought I'd give Parallels another try on my M1 Mac mini. Same problem.
I then tried VMWare. Initially the same problem was there but after installing VMWare tools the sound was fine. So, Cleverbridge, what are VMWare doing that you are not?
I've cancelled my Parallels subscription and switched to VMWare instead.
