I had an MBOX file that I wanted to open up in Outlook, but it would not open. After some research, I found out that Outlook has a default outlook data file (.PST), which is the standard Microsoft Outlook data format. The file is different from MBOX files, which are commonly used outlook data file formats like Thunderbird and Apple Mail.
This means that an MBOX file cannot simply be opened in outlook like a PST file. Microsoft offers you different options for opening or importing PST files in outlook.
You can go ahead and use another email client like Thunderbird to import your MBOX file and view the mails in it. It might be a good option if you already use Thunderbird, but it is quite a hassle if all you want is to look at mails in an old mailbox.
Also you guys can use an MBOX Viewer to look at the mails stored in your MBOX file. Take Kernel MBOX Viewer for example. It can open and preview MBOX emails, and you can even search mails and view attachments without outlook or the email program used to create the MBOX file.
