When buying Parallels desktop for Mac do i need to buy windows XP as well to run it

i just bought parallels desktop for mac the day and i forgot to ask at the shop would i need to buy windows xp along with parallels to run it.

can any one help me out here it would be great?

if you have a copy of windows lying around just use that after all it belongs to you.
