Upgrading from Parallels 6 to 9?

I've let my Parallels updates lapse after buying a new computer and having not needed parallels. Alas, I now need to use it again and was offered the discounted rate for Parallels 9 upgrade.

When I enter my parallels 6 activation key, it says"

"This key cannot be used with parallels Deskotp Build 9.0.24229, for details, click here.

Nowhere can I seem to find how to fix my problem in the link provided as it only references Parallels 8.

This is my 6th registration key per my account. I certainly think the upgrade is what I needed.

Hi KCV,

Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac is an End of Life product which cannot be Upgraded to PD 9 directly, please refer http://kb.parallels.com/116776
Your current version of PD should be 7 or 8 in order to upgrade to PD 9. So you have to purchase the full version of PD 9 from http://buy.parallels.com/329/purl-pd9f?x-source=site&x-locale=us
