Upgrade from 3.5 to 5.0 issue

I upgraded my Imac to Snow Leopard and found out that Parallels 3.5 can no longer run so I downloaded the upgrade to 5.0. After installation of the upgrade it told me that the VM needs to be upgraded. The upgrade is stuck at stage 1 of 4 even after letting it run over the weekend. Tried to reinstall and uninstall Parallels but it is saying that the VM needs to be shutdown first.
I have no idea what is going on. Sent several email support request to Parallels but so far has received no reply. I bought the upgrade through Element5 and I could not find any support codes so I can not call them.
 
Same problem

I am upgrading from 3.5 to 5 for Snow Leopard support and the installer is stuck at
"Please wait while the virtual machine is being upgrades..."
"Searching for new devices (Step 2 of 4)..."

The upgrade is stuck at stage 1 of 4 (see screen shot) it never goes beyond that.

I tried to reinstall but it requires me to shut down the virtual machine but I can not see it so I can not shut it down.
I also tried to uninstall but it gave me the same message.

Hello Alexander,

First of all click on the apple logo -> force quit and then force quit Parallels Virtual Machine and everything related to Parallels. Now, try to run the upgrade process once again and make sure that Parallels is not running.

Update on Upgrade from 3.5 to 5.0 issues

The upgrade is still stuck at stage 1 of 4 but now a message came up that the upgrade must be done manually.
I also got a blank screen in which the VM is supposed to be running. I tried to install Parallel Tools but it does not do anything.

I do not know what to do now. Shall I reinstall Windows XP?

Hi. I'm having the exact same problem.

I have gone through and tried all of the suggestions here. I tried to configure through the VM tab, but none of the options are blackened... they are all grey so I can't click on them.

When I am on the "Stage 1 of 4" screen and I bring up the "install manual" window and I say yes. Then it shuts it down and restarts windows only to automatically brings me back to the "stage 1 of 4" screen. So then I am back where I started.

Any suggestions?
