It would have been awesome to have seen an open beta (a la Fusion) just because people have been waiting (sometimes patiently 
for a while for some features.
The open beta could have been a series of release candidates (so minimizing hurting people) while letting people help get the product right. A bit of the angst on the forums could have been disarmed with "go try the beta - no guarantees".
I'd still be willing to run in an open beta - even if only for a month before a possible release.

Another thing that would be awesome is if the trial was a four-weeker, not a two-weeker. A bit more time to try everything out.
