[Ubuntu 10.10] Upgrade Install destroys VM /media/psf can't mount

Hi, I used the update manager in Ubuntu 10.04 to update to 10.10 and after it did it's thing and rebooted it complained about not being able to mount a share. After that it appears the Xwindow server is hosed too. I can't do much more than log in as root.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to start over?

Boot in recovery mode, then choose the option for "Safe Graphics Mode" and uninstall Parallels Tools.
To uninstall Paralles Tools just run the installer and choose to uninstall.

BTW, you won't be able to install it again, as it's currently incompatible with Ubuntu 10.10.

You'll be able to boot Ubuntu 10.10 after uninstalling Parallels Tools.
Just wait for the update and you'll be fine again.
 
Worked for me too (if you don't have the guest tools installed you can tell Parallels to reinstall them form the VM menu and then find the install (and uninstall) script in /media.

To avoid the inconvenience just install the tools before upgrading (or at least before you reboot).
