Testing Upgrade Installation On A New Machine Before Committing?

Because it's absolutely imperative to my workflow that I have zero downtime I cannot risk upgrading my MacBook Pro to Yosemite (and Parallels to v10) without first testing it.

My plan is to buy a new MacBook Pro and migrate my old stuff across. I'd like therefore to buy the upgrade version of Parallels and install that on the new machine, then try my VM on it.

But I notice the recommended method of transfer is to first uninstall Parallels from the original machine. I absolutely do not want to do that as it will leave me without a backup plan should the new installation on the new laptop/OS not fire up my VM OK.

Other than buying Parallels v10 'new' (costing me extra) is there any way to follow my plan?

Can I install perhaps a 30 day trial of v10 first on the new laptop and check it opens my VM file OK?

Hi Jeff,

Yes, you can absolutely try the Trial version of Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac which is valid for 14 days : http://kb.parallels.com/122644

And uninstalling Parallels Desktop will not remove your Virtual Machine, only the application will be uninstalled. Virtual Machine will be accessible once the application is installed again.
