Symantec Antivirus Seized XP on Parallels

Apparently Norton Antivirus has totally taken over my virtual Windows XP machine in Parallels. I am set up to use coherence mode. When it starts up, just to the right of the Start menu there is an icon on the bar that says "Full Scan started on 1..." I do not believe I ever tried before a couple of days ago to start Parallels after I installed Norton Antivirus last week. I cannot get any response from a mouse click on anything in the Parallels Window, although it does respond to clicks in the Mac part of the machine, including the Parallels Desktop bar at the top of the screen. It has been sitting in this mode for 2.5 hours with no change. A day or so ago I left it overnight in the same state and nothing ever finished. I get no response from Ctrl-Alt-Del, either with the keys or by going to the Actions/SendKeys menu from the Parallels Desktop taskbar at the top of the page. So I can neither use Windows XP in Parallels, nor turn off Norton Antivirus.

How can I get out of this state? Can I use Norton Antivirus at all with Parallels? I may have set it to do too much or to do it too often! What I installed is Symantec Antivirus 10.1.5 and I installed it (the Windows version of course) in Windows XP Professional which is my virtual OS.

probably, your Antivirus is set up to block some Parallels parts (Parallels Tools, for example), so please, try to boot into the safe mode and edit Antivirus settings. Will it help?
 
How do I boot into Safe Mode on Windows XP using Parallels. There is no mention of Safe Mode in the Parallels Users Guide. Sorry to not respond to your reply sooner, but things have been hectic!
 
Interference between Norton Antivirus and Parallels Control Center?

In my case I recently installed Norton Antivirus 2009 (in Bootcamp) and since then when I open Windows XP in Parallels I eventually get a message saying that «Parallels Control Center has met a problem...». I can still work in the guest OS but sometimes it gets anormally slow at doing some things. I deactivated Auto Protect and rebooted but nothing changed. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the Parallels Tools and even Parallels as a whole, but still the same message comes. It's strange because everything was fine before.
 
The problem does not seem to be with NA 2009 after all

I actually uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2009 but the problem is still there. Now I really don't know what made it happen in the first place but at least I can use the virtual machine (though when it decides to become unresponsive I prefer to stop and restart it not to loose my work). Maybe a future update will solve the problem??

Did you ever resolve the abnormally slow responsiveness? I've been suspecting Norton, but after you last comment, I'm wondering if you discovered something else at play?
