Running Bootcamp AND Parallels Desktop

I just got a new iMac 2.4 gHz, with 3 GB of RAM. I'll be using Leopard. I already own Parallels Desktop 2.5, build 3214.

I want to install Parallels Desktop on my new machine. However I also want to run Windows XP under Bootcamp. Mostly to run my 3D modeling program trueSpace, which I understand will run better in Bootcamp than in PD.

I understand that it is possible to use just one copy of Windos XP, by installing Bootcamp first, and then use the Bootcamp partition when I install PD.

What I do not understand is where I should install my applications. Should I install them in XP on the Bootcamp partition, or in XP on the PD VM? Or in both places. Can applications installed under Bootcamp be seen and opened by PD?

Since I intend to run trueSpace under Bootcamp only, and everything I am doing now runs fine under build 3214, is there a need for me to upgrade to PD version 3.0?

How well would trueSpace run under PD 3.0? If it runs well, I don't need to use Bootcamp.

May I assume, that if I run Bootcamp AND PD, and use only one XP install, which is installed on the Bootcamp partition, I would need to reinstall everything (both XP and applications) from scratch, if in the future I decide I no longer need Bootcamp, and only want to run PD.

Hello,

if you install an application in Boot Camp or in PD, you can run this application both in Boot Camp and in PD.
We are not aware of any problems with trueSpace running on PD 3.x. But you can try to use the trial version of PD 3.x just to observe the performance of trueSpace.
With future updates it will be the feature available, which will make it possible to migrate the VM from Boot Camp to ordinary VM.

Well, that didn't go well at all! I cannot install PD 2.5 build 3214, nor from an earlier build from the disk.

When I mount the 3214 dmg file, and start my install, the process hangs at "Preparing Parallels Desktop" at the very beginning of the process at "Running Parallels Desktop Installer Script". After waiting for about 20 minutes and nothing happening, I can also not get out of it, and when I try I get an error message, that says "Installer Busy". I can only force quit out of this. I can then not unmount the dmg file, and the only way to do this, is by relaunching Finder.

When I tried to install PD from the disk that I have, since I bought the program (with the idea to then update to build 3214), the install fails at exactly the same point. Ejecting the disk also fails. I get an error message, that says: The disk "Parallels Desktop" is in use and could not be ejected. I have to relaunch Finder to eject the disk.

Restarting the computer doesn't help either.

What am I supposed to do? Everything went just fine in Tiger, and I am not doing anything differently.

please try to do the following:
At the moment of freeze, open Terminal application (Applications - Utilities) and execute the commands below:
cd /Volumes/Parallels Desktop/Install Parallels Desktop.pkg/Contents/Resources
sudo ./preflight
