[resolved] Quickbooks Desktop no longer working after 26.1.2 upgrade

Same issue - QB wouldn't open. QB support no help. Win 11, Parallels 26.1.2, MBPro M3, latest Tahoe.
Navigated to the Compatability tab. 'Change emulation settings' not shown. Ran Compatability Troubleshooter - useless. Couldn't find QB exe file even in manual mode. QB also prime reason I use Parallels. Any suggestions about 'Change emulation settings' not being shown. Thanks.

This morning I *Was* able to fix this using the posted directions from @CoryL1

Here's how to find the Emulation Settings thing!

Find your QB App in Windows (In my case it resides in "C:\Program Files\Intuit\Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions 24.0\QBWEnterprise.exe")

Right Click and choose Properties

Click the Compatibility Tab

Under the section called "Windows on Arm" click "Change emulation settings"

You will see a pulldown with an arrow that likely says "default"

Click that pulldown and you should see the "Very Strict execution" choice at the bottom of that list

Choose that, hit OK, Then Apply, then reboot!

Hopefully this will work for you!

Hello everyone,
Please note that our team is still working on the issue.
For the time being, the workarounds to use QuickBooks are:

a) To change the emulation settings for Quickbooks in the Properties of the Application.

b) If the above still leads to the same issue, Downgrade to Parallels Desktop 26.0.1.

The steps to proceed with the above workarounds are outlined in this article: https://kb.parallels.com/en/131061

Kind Regards,
Parallels Team

I am in the same boat and at my wits' end trying to figure out how to "roll back" to 26.0.1 I've spent weeks dealing with Quickbooks issues and yesterday it finally just stopped working altogether!
I see NO WHERE these links to past versions of Parallels are provided. The only choice you are giving on the parallels site is Ver 26 which that .dmg that downloads is the dreaded 26.1.2
Where do we find links to the previous versions?

I can go into time machine back to mid September and see the old version sitting in my applications but I'm doubting I can just copy and paste that in place of 26.1.2 and run it without doing a proper install? What happens if I just click "Restore" on that Parallels appellation 26.0 from inside Time Machine?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
See the BEST ANSWER above in this thread that refers to https://kb.parallels.com/en/131061 which has a link to a disk image installer for v26.0.1.

After I completed the Parallels 26.1.2 upgrade. Quickbooks Desktop Pro will no longer load files.
Running a Windows 11 VM.
Apple M4 Pro

Anyone have this problem or have an idea what changed within the recent upgrade that would have broke things? The Quickbooks app loads fine, it's loading the actual QB files that no longer functions. Regardless of file location.

I have had the same issue. Company files would not load. My IT person spent 10 hours looking into why. QB said it was my company files. I had to go buy a Windows Computer just to work on my company files. So I have spent a lot of money with buying another computer and paying my IT person as well as my time talking with QB and the downtime of not being able to work on my clients files. This is pretty sad on Parallels part not to have this fixed yet. I keep looking for the update to fix this mess and so far nothing. I have been using Parallels for over 15 years and not once have had an issue. This is a serious issue they need to address.

Did you see the BEST ANSWER above in this thread that refers to https://kb.parallels.com/en/131061 which has a link to a disk image installer for v26.0.1? That downgrade to an older Parallels version worked for me.

I have tried to find the version to downgrade to and it doesn't let me download it. The download button is greyed out. I checked my subscription and it is still good. Any other ideas?

Parallels folks, please fix this soon. I am using the workaround, but it makes QuickBooks so slow as to seriously impede the ability to get work done. This is the only reason I have had Parallels (and I suspect there are many other Mac users who only buy it to use QuickBooks). I don't want to have to get rid of Parallels and go to using QuickBooks online instead, but I can't work this slow for much longer. Just saying...

Instead of using the first alternative of changing the emulation settings to very strict execution, put that setting back to Default and try instead the Alternative Workaround which in the KB article https://kb.parallels.com/en/131061 has a text link "Parallels Desktop v26.0.1" to the following: http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v26/26.0.1-57243/ParallelsDesktop-26.0.1-57243.dmg
That worked for me and does not appear to have any performance issues.

Thanks much. However, that did not fix the slowness. It takes forever to open up everything on a company file, even on a very small company file. I never had this problem before. I have tried everything (file repair, etc.), plus changing Parallels memory settings, etc. Nothing works.

Ah. Relief at last! My fault (as usual)- I am now sent to adult time out to pay for my mistake. it had compatibility mode selected. Once I unchecked that things sped up.

That's great! Just so others are aware, changing the compatibility emulation setting requires restarting the Windows virtual machine for it to take effect. This isn't the issue you had (you just didn't have it set back to Default) but people should not expect to see a change just when they change the setting until they restart Windows.

Yes, I saw it. No it doesn't work to get to 26.0.1. How can I download it?
Did you try the link in the KB article which is
http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v26/26.0.1-57243/ParallelsDesktop-26.0.1-57243.dmg
which should download a disk image that you then double-click on and it opens up a folder window that says "Parallels® Desktop 26 for Mac" on the left and shows an icon on the right with the word "Install" under it. If you double-click on the icon it will give you a warning about opening and you click on "Open" and it will then proceed with the installation (if you have Parallels open you will be told that you need to quit that app first).

Sounds like the recent Parallels 26.1.2 update may have changed how network/file access works in your Windows 11 VM, which can definitely break QuickBooks file loading even though the app itself opens.

A few things folks usually check:

  • Reset the VM's shared folder / drive mappings in Parallels.

  • Make sure Windows has access permissions to the file location.

  • Try opening the QB files from inside the VM's local C: drive instead of a shared host folder.
It's not uncommon for Parallels updates to tweak filesystem integration and break certain legacy apps.
