Parallels Desktop 7 - Ubuntu 11.04 guest hang on resume from sleep.

Hi Parallels et al,

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue..

I have just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 11.04 for development under Parallels, and am having the consistent problem of my VM locking up when I resume. The prl_vm_app process will show 100% (or more depending on # of CPUs). The issue is very easy to recreate, as it happens every time I close and open my Macbook Air. I tried disabling gdm and booting into only text mode, but had the same issue. I will append the log. The machine is unresponsive when the final log message is "e1000 hang detected" though I'm not sure if this is just an effect of the VM itself hanging?

Macbook Air 2011 (core i7) 4GB ram

Guest info:
Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit guest.
768MB Ram allocated
1/2 CPUs (tried both)
Parallels Desktop 7.0.14922
Parallels Tools (latest version) installed
Adaptive Hypervisor on/off (tried both)

Same problem with lastest parallels tools (7.0.14922), before this version all was ok.

Sorry I can't be of more help; I'm seeing the same issues. Although every once in a while I find the host OS wont resume!

Same here with Ubuntu 10.10 on a Macbook i7

I am having exactly the same issue. My Linux OS is weirdly able to accept CTRL-ALT-F1..F7 to switch virtual consoles, but is unresponsive otherwise. My guess is that this is an issue with the Parallels tools.

Anyone have a fix?

Currently evaluating Parallels 7 and I'm seeing this same problem. I have an Ubuntu 11.04 VM that I migrated from VMware Fusion. Worked fine there, no hangs on suspend, etc.

Switched to Fedora 15

I had the same problem. I switched from Ubuntu to a Fedora 15 VM (created out of a selection in the dialog for creating new Parallels virtual machines). Fedora 15 seems to generally play better with Parallels, and I like the new Gnome 3 interface. However, I've now also developed the habit of suspending my Linux VMs before I close the lid on my MAC.

For Linux to work well with Parallels, it seems that Parallels Tools needs to be in good working order. Package updates sometimes break Parallels Tools and I don't know it until I reboot and get a message that Parallels Tools needs to be re-installed. In the Parallels environment, I'm also now getting in the habit of rebooting from time-to-time, especially if I have been changing my OS configuration.

I don't have this problem using older core-duo 2 iMac.
Any fix or workaround Parallels team ?

Same problem, with both Ubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 10.04 guests. Worked fine with Parallels 6, started failing after upgrade to Parallels 7.

I'm also experiencing this problem with Parallels 7 and Ubuntu 11.04. Does anyone know if the problem still occurs with 11.10?

UPDATE: I can confirm that the problem also occurs with 11.10. In both cases I am running the 64-bit version of Ubuntu.

I just updated as well, and the problem is still present. I've adjusted my MacBook's sleep timeout all the way upward, but I still run into problems if I forget to suspend the Virtual Machine before I close the lid.

This problem is causing me to lose work.

after my most recent ubuntu update it now appears that suspend is working properly. I will post again after some real world use.

I'm getting inconsistant results. I've had several tests where it worked, and some where it's just frozen.
