Parallels 9 can't be started after Mavericks update

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes -- updated to Mavericks, and when I tried to start my VM i got a window that said Parallels cannot be started -- I get the little spinning icon that you get when you start up a mac, but then the VM shuts off. I read somewhere that you had to have Desktop 9 before upgrading. I don't have my MV on a boot camp partition -- I just bought Parallels 9 and installed it, but now it won't start up in Mavericks -- did fine in SL. Anyone else have this problem?

- Please run Repair Disk Permission as suggested at http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57595312-285/repair-disk-permissions-to-speed-up-your-mac/
- Download Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac from http://www.parallels.com/directdownload/pd9 and install Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac.
