openSUSE 10.2 . . . locks up machine ?

Hi, I installed Parallels 2.2 (2112) on my WinXP machine. I created a VM and installed 32bit openSUSE 10.2. When I boot suse, it sometimes locks up my entire machine while it's booting. Once it's up, it seems fine. It's not always at the same point in the boot process.

Any thoughts on troubleshooting?

Or should I go to Ubuntu or another distro?

I got it to run just fine on my WinXP Pro laptop . . . . .

Host machine.
-HP desktop box with Win XP Media Center Edition. Fully patched and up to date via Microsoft's online update.
-Dual core AMD processors
-2 GB Ram

Guest
-Linux/Other Linux definition.
-Growing virtual disk defined
-512MB Ram defined
-Net based install of openSuse 10.2
-All current opensuse patches via it's automatic updater

I'll post where in the boot process it hangs later this evening. Though it has not always hung in the same place.

So - is it on or off by default (VM configuration->Options->VM flags "Enable hardware virtualization")? Try opposite option. Looking forward for your feedback.

Acceleration Level is set to High. and Enable Hardware Virt is checked.

I set it to Normal and turned off the check mark and am trying it now.

ok, 8 reboots and no lock up. Looks like that did the trick . . .

Now how much performance did I lose?

Did more testing . . . Seems the "Enable Hardware Virtualization Support (EHVS)" check box is the culpret. I checked it (on) and it locked up again. Uncheck and doesnt lock up. I then set the Acceleration to high and it works still with the EHVS unchecked.

I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core proceessor 4600+.

One more thing . . . Tried to install Fedora Core 6 last night. t locked up with the default settings of High and EHVS checked. . . .

Created anoher VM and installed Ubuntu 6.10. Again left deault value of High and EHVS checked and it runs fine. Have rebooted it seversl time with no problems.
