Opening Office for Mac files in Windows 7 VM

Hi, good morning!

I'm running Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac so that I can access my company's online workplace via Internet Explorer. I have Office for Mac installed. I haven't been able to find a way to set the office files on the Windows VM to open in the correct program, e.g. Word, excel. They automatically open using the Mac programs Pages and Numbers and I can't figure out how to change that! I'm sure it's a simple fix and I'm just being a moron. This is the only glitch I've had- otherwise I'm very happy with the software.

Thanks!

Jo

Thanks... yes I should have made clear, I did try that. I wasn't able to navigate to the Mac program files folder from the Windows control panel.

> W7 control panel-> Default Programs

You can set the default applications that should open with a specific file from a Parallels control panel. Then, when you double-click on a file in Windows, it will cause the default Mac application to open and load that file.

This is how to do it:

Do one of the following:
1 Option-click (Alt-click) the Parallels icon in the menu bar and choose Configure.
2 When the Parallels Desktop menu bar is visible at the top of the screen, choose Virtual Machine > Configure.
2 Click Options and click Applications.
3 Select Share Mac applications with Windows.

You can open a file in a Mac OS X application from Windows Explorer, from the Open dialog in most Windows programs, or from Windows Desktop if Windows is set to appear in a separate Window or at full screen (p. 51). You may want to do this if you don't have a Windows program that can open the file.

• In Windows,right-click(orControl-click)afileanddooneofthefollowing:
• Choose Open on Mac from the shortcut menu. The file opens in the default Mac OS X application for that file type.
• Choose Open With from the shortcut menu, and then choose an application.

Note: You can only perform these actions with files stored in shared folders (p. 60).

Hope this helps!
