Open source Parallels Tools for more rapid and open support?

Parallels could capitalize on a big win if you could figure out how to deliver an open source driver that could facilitate community involvement. Currently too few Linux distributions are supported and/or supported too slowly. For example, the awesome rolling Ubuntu fork called Rhino Linux cannot have Parallels Tools installed due to not supporting Linux 6.6: https://github.com/rhino-linux/os/issues/68

These ongoing headaches could evaporate if you would provide both your current methodology as well as an open sourced version of Parallels Tools that would allow distributions to either roll in the support or provide it quickly as a community.
 
Very much agreed, OpenBSD is barely usable and lack of any documentation prevents volunteering into writing a driver to support more systems on Parallels... the only reason I run Parallels is to be able to run different systems out of which only one works and the others are mostly unusable :-(

Opensourcing tools or at least giving access to specs so people could at least bring basic support for most systems would be nice, as is I'm unsure I'll consider using Parallels in the future to be honest, I might as well use UTM or qemu :-/
 
@Gilles2 absolutely. The problem is that I can't seem to have a solid experience with UTM. The UX is very much lacking in some areas, but this situation with Parallels not giving more open and broad support capacity to the community is INSANE. There is NO WAY it could damage their market share. They just need to focus on making an awesome product on the UX side and facilitating broad use cases through opening up community involvement for (especially) non support operating systems and versions thereof. I can't even run test dev versions of supported operating systems right now. They just lock us into a horrible negative feedback loop right now with their present tactics. They are entirely out of touch with users currently!
 
If parallel tools would be open source they could be included by default by major distros, with the following side effects:
  • make Parallels easier to use and a better sale
  • reduce maintenance cost for Parallels as distros will ensure that the tools compile and install with new versions
