Next "major version" of Parallels Desktop "due in the first half of next year"

I just found this article which states that the next "major version" of Parallels Desktop, which is supposed to include SMP support and 64-bit support for guest OSs is "due in the first half of next year".

The question is though, what is meant by "major version"? Is it talking about a 3.X version or 4.0? If Parallels had a version numbering scheme that was a little more obvious I would assume that it is talking about 4.0. But since there have been some significant feature updates and Parallels Desktop still has the version number of 3.0 it is less obvious if a .X version is considered a major or minor version, since the version numbering system doesn't seem to include minor versions.

Parallels has clearly stated that a major number is from the series 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, etc. The minor numbers would replace the x. They have also said that you pay to upgrade between major numbers but you do not pay to update between minor numbers. The difference between update and upgrade being important distinctions. Updates are free and are maintenance corrections to your existing major version. They don't mention end of life much so it's anyone's guess when 2.x is EOL'd.
