Mouse drift when resizing windows in Beta2 3094

Greetings all,

I seem to have only one major issue with the new build (3094). When I make changes to the size of the Parallels window or enter (or exit) fullscreen mode when running the VM I loose control of the mouse. It simply drifts down to the lower right corner no matter where I move it. The hardware acceleration slider fix in the advanced window of the displays tab does not solve the problem. The slider defaults to that position anyway. Any other solutions to this quagmire? No problems when booted natively into BootCamp. It seems to be triggered by changing the VM's window resolution.

I am very impressed by the latest build (3094). Not having to select configuration on boot is a grade A improvement over 3036 IMHO.

I have the same problem - I can confirm that it seems to happen when you resize the parallels window. I also experienced the same problem with the previous 3036 release as well.
 
Hey y'all, do this one thing:

Open the Mac System Preferences and go to the Universal Access preferences pane to see whether the option "Enable access for assistive devices" is checked or not.

If it is checked, unckeck it and see if this solves the problem. Then please report back here to let us know whether or not it did.

If it is not checked, I don't have any good suggestions, sorry :(
 
Same here, assistive device setting NOT checked

I hope the Parallels development team knows about and is working on this bug. It's the one thing that causes me pain.

Suspend/resume seems to give me this trouble as well. I am hesitant to downgrade to the 1970 build as I don't want my VM corrupted in any way. Any clues from the Parallels team on whether this is being addressed at all?

I love the product, but this KILLs working with Coherence for me as any movement of ANY window in the Coherence mode causes this mouse problem as well.

assistive devices...not related

Also tried disabling 'assistive devices' setting... has no effect.

I am currently experimenting with the 'advanced settings' of the Parallels mouse driver in WinXP (accessible via the 'device manager' in XP). So far, no luck - resizing (from windowed to fullscreen) still causes the mouse to drift towards the lower right corner of the screen...

I will continue to experiment to see if I can fix the problem...
 
Well, thanks for reporting back here about the assistive devices. I'm sorry I don't have any good suggestions to offer you, but your reports are helping me troubleshoot my own mouse control problem that seems to be related to this option.

One thing maybe worth trying is this: plug in a USB mouse, then in the Mouse preference pane, under the Trackpad tab, check the option that says "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" (I am assuming we are all on portables here; anyone using an iMac or Macpro obviously doesn't have a trackpad), and see what happens. If the problem goes away, then there is some issue with trackpad communication between Mac OS and Parallels. This test unfortunately won't really help you out much, but it may help the Parallels engineers get to the bottom of this issue.

I posted a reply on the " Parallels Desktop for Mac build 3094 Beta 2 is available for download." thread about this issue as well, but unfortunately with no response.

I have tried the setting & removing the assistive devices option in Mac preferences, and also adjusting the hardware acceleration settings in XP's display properties as was suggested else where, all to no avail.

I have also tried an external mouse (Bluetooth MightyMouse) with same result.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I have reverted back to build 1970 with out any problem. Just make sure to FULLY REMOVE Parallels Tools from within 3094 or 3036 first. Next I used the uninstall option on the appropriate .dmg. Then clean installed 1970 and installed Tools. All safe and sound.

Update to previous post.

Have just tried build 3106. Problem still exists.

Only work-around I can currently find is to enable "Use Mouse Keys" in the Accessibility Control Panel within XP -- this needs to be done as a keyboard/keystroke only action.

With this option enabled, then you can then use [fn]-[Numeric Keypad Key] to emulate a mouse movement. E.g. [fn-7] emulates a mouse move Up and Left, [fn-6] emulates a mouse move right, etc.

Slow, but does work.

As for me, it's back to build 1970 again.

I have the same problems still with the latest beta 3106. It happens when I resize the window and also coherence does not work either. I love this software and this seems to be the only problems that I am having. Thanks, Jeff
 
Still no official answer to this bug? (if my forum searching skills suck i do appologize but "mouse" + "drifting" returns no official aknowledgements that this is a reckognized bug)

Its extremly annoying and makes coherence and fullscreen modes, unusable :(

Several reports all over the forum concerning this bug, but no replys. (from the Parallels team)

I tried all the above workarounds and no luck.. The cursor still drifts down and right when you move the mouse. Both on an desktop machine and on a laptop. (both using trackpad and USB mouse)

I even tried the coherence bug workaround, renaming the cohrence file and reinstalling tools, but it didnt change the strange mous behaviour.

One workaround is to log out of windows using the keyboard, it somehow reinitializes the mouse driver and you are able to log in again with a working mouse (unless the login process changes resolution, then youre stuck with a drifting mouse again, so make sure you only run in windowed mode)

The Parallels team has stated that they read the forums. Their track record is to post when they have something helpful to say. They will occasionally acknowledge a bug, but most of the time they don't say anything here, they just fix it (which seems to me to be a better use of time).

Since this has been reported several times, I'm sure they know about it, and will fix it, or contact you or some other person with the problem for info on how to reproduce it. Other than that, I wouldn't expect to hear anything until it's fixed.

This is BETA software, and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
