Make sure you tell Apple support what happened and my suggested solution above. Their standard solution for most problems is to is backup, reformat disk, reinstall system, and restore data. Unluckily, while that will fix many, if not most issues, that will not fix this issue as these flags are restored with the files.
Unluckily, I have not find convenient app which would let me manually fix these flags.
Alternative you have is to show invisible files in Finder (there are apps which let you do that) and then you will see the files in greyed out way and can use them.
Or you can get alternative app to finder (Forklift is one of many) and those are easier to switch to show hidden files. Then you can find them there, in Desktop folder, also showing grayed out, but usable.
The trouble is, that does not change much for use...

  2. Thanks, I have talked to them and showed them your fix. They took notes and said they would get back to me. The keystrokes Cmd, Shift, and Period will also show hidden files, although they will be greyed out. Still... not the solution I'm looking for.

I have the same issue. I've attempted the various fixes with out success. If I search for the files I can see them in the finder but I can't open them or do anything else with them.

Same issue and Parallels has basically told me there is nothing that can be done on their end...my computer seems permanently corrupted, as I have uninstalled Parallels and my files are still not retrievable.

    Hi Natalie,

Could you please confirm if you still have Parallels Toolbox installed?

Hello, No, the Toolbox is not installed. That was the first thing I uninstalled.
