Linux host? Post your specs: cpu,ram,guestOS,speed

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get an idea of how fast a computer i need to use either win98 or xp. If you are using linux, please post your computer specs: linux distro, cpu, ram, guest windows OS, and the speed of the guest OS (barely usable, usable, snappy).

my specs: ubuntu6.06, 1.2ghz amd, 640ram, win98, barely usable

amd 3200 xp + 1GB ram, suse 10.1 host, windows xp guest.

After installation of the parallels tools in xp it is just as fast as if it was running on its own hard drive.

I have 512MB of ram alloted to xp, that is where you can get the most speed increase the more ram the better.

Not now, but not in the too distant past, I have had Parallels installed on a 1Ghz SuSE 10.0 box with 1Gb of Ram and it ran a Windows 2000 VM just fine.

I think your CPU is good enough, but you definately want more memory. At least 1Gb if you can.

My specs are MSI laptop with an AMD 64 T30 Turion, 1Gb Ram, 128Mb allocated to video, 486Mb allocated to an XP VM. And I love it all.

Suse 10.1, AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+, 1 gig memory, 512 mem for PW, xp guest.
If I could only get me printer (HP Office jet T45xi) to work it would be the cats meow.

Ubuntu host, Athlon XP 2.6Ghz, 1.5GB, 384mb for windows and edgy. Windows runs acceptably if you disable all graphic features, mouse is sluuuugish in edgy (not ram related).

Ubuntu host, Pentium M 1.86ghz, 1GB, 384mb for windows. Same story.

I would really like it if you got that "responsiveness" when using VM's as you do in Vmware.

yeah, i spent the day installing vmware and getting my old copy of win98se going. win98 on vmware is faster than win98 on parallels (on my particular setup). the vmware setup was a bit more tricky though.
