I installed an ubuntu 22.04 VM using the standard path offered by Parallels. After installation I could work fine in a terminal, although the keyboard mapping wasn't appropriate. I have a german keyboard and the mapping seemd to be US. Anyway, since I was told by some mechanism that was running in the background, that a new version was available, I once clicked ok or agreed. to update. Nothing happened.
So I decided to run `sudo do-release-upgrade. The process started, I had to answer some prompts untila reboot was due.
After the OS came up again from the reboot, I now have a password promt but the window doesn't accept any keyboard input.
