SpeechMike and SpeechExec Pro software Ok, after installing new WinXP drivers from the Philips site, everything worked perfectly. Now I have installed the latest version of Parallels 4.0.3810 and a new problem has occurred. Since the upgrade, SpeechExec Pro will not load. This program needs the USB dongle to start; if it's not inserted a message appears saying "cannot find a valid license". Disconnecting the dongle using parallels (or unplugging it) leads to the program failing to start, as expected. However, when the dongle is inserted, the SpeechExec Pro simply hangs. If you disconnect the dongle in the middle of the hang, you get the "no valid license message". If you don't disconnect the dongle, no matter how long you wait, the program doesn't start. I don't think this is a SpeechExec problem. It definitely seems related to the new Parallels version.
update Yes, it definitely looks like the problem is related to the new build of parallels. 1. the same issue occurs when running parallels on my other virtual WinXP machine. the only change made to these virtual machines is to update to the latest build of parallels. 2. uninstalling and then reinstalling the speechexec software makes no difference 3. the dongle is correctly listed in the device manager, just as it should be despite this, speechexec no longer runs
update (2) philips helpfully provided a version of speechexec that will run without the dongle so, the software now runs. however, the speechmike ii usb device now is not recognized remove, clean install, reinstall drivers -- all makes no difference if you load up speechexec with the speechmike connected to the vm -- speechexec hangs on "initializing audio components". if you load speechexec with the speechmike disconnected and then plug it in, the speechmike is not recognized by speechexec. this really really seems to be a problem related to the new build. any thoughts from parallels tech support?
Same problem with Philips Speechexec Pro Dear Cello, in your last post you indicated that Philips sent you a copy that did not require the dongle, was it simply a case of emailing the company? How long did it take to resolve? I would appreciate a swift response. My audio typist is back next week and I have had to resort to tapes! Regards, Mark
I contacted [email protected] via the Webform on the Philips website. The rep sent me a download link to SpeechExec Dictate (not Dictate Pro) with a license key. This didn't restore full functionality but it was better than nothing.
