"Insufficient Disk Space" to Install CorelDraw X5

I tried to install CorelDraw X5 on a new iMac, under Windows 7, via Parallels Desktop 9, but got an error message "insufficient disk space" during installation. I know I have about 40GB of free disk space on the Parallels partition. How much disk space is required during installation of CorelDraw X5? Can I increase the size of the partition?

Hi DrStein,

You can resize the Virtual Disk by following the steps outline below:

1. Check your Windows hard disk for errors by following this article: http://kb.parallels.com/115549
2. As a precaution you can back up your Virtual Machine: http://kb.parallels.com/8829
3. Start Parallels Desktop but do not start your Virtual machine or shut it down if it is running.
4. In Parallels Desktop menu bar please click on Window menu to open the drop-down list
5. Click on Virtual Machines List
6. In the Virtual Machines List that shows up right-click on your Virtual machine and choose Configure
7. Go to Hardware tab, open Hard Disk 1 and click Edit.
8. Please select the new size of the Virtual Machine. Check "Resize file system" and click Apply.
9. A progress bar will appear and then your virtual hard drive will be resized.

I'd rather not risk potential problems that could happen if I increase the size of the Virtual Disk. Can you explain why 40GB of disk space is insufficient for a Corel Draw installation. I find it hard to believe that an additional 10 or 20 GB will solve the problem. I suspect that Parallels is not recognizing my available disk space (during the attempted Corel Draw installation, the available disk space was listed as "0"). If Parallels is not recognizing the available disk space, I could increase the size of the Virtual Disk and still have the same installation problem.

If it says 0, why do you think you have 40GB of space available. Or are you talking about Windows reports 0 but the install program shows 0 when you are selecting a disk to install on. It may sound silly but sometimes install programs select the wrong disk to install to (D:\ as an example).

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm having the same now. Even if I try a custom install and set the destination it'll say something like:

242mb required of 0 bites on drive /
5gb of 50 free on drive D/

So I know I have enough free space, however I can't get rid of the first line that isn't referencing a drive?

Try selecting other drive, select D, then do it again and select C. Does that fix it?

Thanks for getting back to me Aleksey, unfortunatley not, no matter which drive I select it changes the drive on the bottom of the two lines, but the "242mb required of 0bites on drive /" stays on the top line. What else could it be?

Any help is very much appreciated!

It's so difficult to give you suggestions without trying this for myself. I'm downloading CorelDraw X5 to see if I can figure something out that you didn't.

I'm having the same issue now also. I have my drive set as expanding, I just copied 70 GB worth of files to it and then deleted them, so there's tons of space both virtually and in reality. I still get the following error, (see attached screen shot)

Edit: I may have finally found the answer. I logged off and back in with one of our domain administrator accounts, the program installed fine under the new account. So even though there is a misleading error about disk space the real problem may be a user rights issue. (I found that suggestion on the Corel forum where users were encountering the same problem)
