Installing Parallels Tools in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)
Here's how I installed Parallels Tools in 10.04. It took me several hours to figure it out:
1) Install Parallels Tools from the Virtual Machine Menu
when the Parallels Tools "CD" is mounted on the Ubuntu Desktop
2) Open Terminal from Applications Menu
3) Type cd ..
4) Type cd ..
5) Type cd media
6) Type cd "Parallels Tools" (The quotes have added)
7) Type sudo ./install
8) Enter your password
Then the Parallels Tools program will run. If you have any questions, please send me an E-Mail. I made a scereenshot of the terminal steps if you are still confused. Hope that helps

I tried to install Parallels Tools in Kubuntu 10.4 Guest. But the installation failed.
I attached the log file from var/log as pdf.

I keep getting this ~ Error: you do not have permissions to run this script. Please press Enter to exit from Parallels installer.
I have tried installing the tools over and over using su, sudo, 'sudo apt-get install {the_name_of_the_pack}'.,
(cd /media/cdrom/, ./install, etc, etc, etc.

This fix to install tools on ubuntu 10.4 does not work for me
I have tried this fix and get to cd "Parallels Tools" and it will not take the command unless I get rid of the space between cd and "Parallels Tools". When I get to sudo ./install I am informed that this command does not exist. If anyone has any ideas on this I would appreciate a reply. This is very frustrating.

I was able to get everything working properly. Re-installing parallels tools did not work until I ran the program and uninstalled it and then re-installed it -- then it worked perfect (mouse transitions between VM/Mac, resizing screen, etc).
I also followed the instructions to fix the visual enhancements and was able to turn them on and that worked too. So now I have everything working perfectly and the new Ubuntu is much better in several areas. Visually it is much better, and watching youtube in the VM works perfectly, whereas with the old Ubuntu the video and audio was always messed up.
Anyone upgrading should be very happy once they get this all working.

i've spent the best part of a day trying to get this to work
couldn't get parallels tools to install using your method but finally got it to work using this
sudo /media/cdrom1/install
however when i install it i get this message
an error occurred when installing parallels tools. please go to /var/log/parallels-tools-install.log for more information.
