I guess I broke it! (Networking)

This is on a MacBook Pro 2.16 GB CPU 3 GB Ram 10.4.10.
Parallels 3.0 Build 4560.0 with XM Pro installed.
I was having problems with my TCP/IP at a client office via plugged in ethernet. I was unable to get an IP address (on my Mac) via DHCP.
Tried different wall ports, different cables, plugged in with a known good cable.
I turned off Airport, Bluetooth in SysPrefs - Network Port Configurations. No joy.
I turned off Parallels Host-Guest and parallels NAT in SysPrefs - Network Port Configurations - to try and debug.
Finally turned out the issue was one of their techs messing with their DHCP setup. Turned things back (the two Parallels settings in SysPrefs) on but cannot get TCP/IP to Parallels. Both Parallels settings show RED jellies in SysPrefs.
I am on Network Adapter 1; Shared Networking.
And thus no networking in Parallels.

Any ideas?

Mac networking works.
I'm thinking I didn't edit the Parallels settings in SysPrefs - though I did look at them to see if I could learn anything. I can see that both are set to DHCP to pull their IPs. is that correct? I know when it was working both showed a 10.72.something.something or another.

I was fiddling some more and got a Parallels update and install message. I let it do so. Parallels crashed. When I got it running again the MAC networking was working again. Same in Parallels. Go figure!
