HTML5 Support Local Printers Open/Save Locations?

Hello:

Sorry, but doesn't the Parallels Remote Application Server support redirecting to local printers, open/save locations on the client vs server?

If so, where is the is documented?
 
RAS supports redirection of local printers to the server. However, since the browsers do not expose all the required printer information to allow 1-to-1 redirection, the HTML5 gateway if forced to redirect only 1 generic printer. Printing to this printer should show the local printer dialog, and allow to printer on the user's printer of choice.
Using "HTML5 + Parallels client" will provide the missing functionality.

Regarding "open/save locations", can you please clarify what it entails?
 
What I meant by "open/save locations" was that a client can open and save a file from a local client location vs using the Parallels RAS server via HTML5
 
By generic printer, I am assuming that you mean a PDF printer. In my testing, the HTML5 client prints to a PDF. The user can then open the PDF and print to their local printer of choice. Or do you mean something else? Can you give more details?

  1. Printing: Yes, "Generic Printer" is the RAS Universal printer which, when using HTML5 prints the document as a PDF.
  2. Full fledged local file redirection is not currently possible via pure HTML5 technology because of the browser's sandboxing limitations. However, the HTML5 client supports file transfer between the client and the server. (You can either use the upload/download file buttons on the HTML5 toolbar or use drag & drop to transfer a file from the client to the server.)
These limitations are obviously not present if using "HTML5 + Parallels client".
 
So, to be clear if you have the Parallels client installed your local printing doesn't print the document as a PDF? And you can open & save files locally used a streamed application vs having to upload it to the Parallels RAS server which we do not want to provide ideally.

Yes. Installing the Parallels Client locally allows you to use full local printing redirection and enables local file/drive redirection.
