FreeBSD 7.3 Networking

Try as I might I can't get my FreeBSD 7.3 VM to get an address on ed0.

Is there something I need to do in terms of the FreeBSD sysinstall? I've tried various things in /etc/rc.conf none of which have changed anything.

if I ifconfig ed0 comes up as unconfigured:

ed0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
ether 00:1c:42:aa:c8:75
media: Ethernet autoselect (10baseT/UTP)

I know this is a pretty vague description of the issue however I've just done a basic install -- kind of expected it would just work. Shame on me ;)

Oh I'm running the latest version of Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac.
