Free Memory Utility- Doing the opposite?

Hi All,

Fresh Mac Tahoe, (note this also had done it during the beta updates, however never raised due it being a beta and thought this would be fixed)

MacBook Pro M4 Max,
64GB Ram.

At fresh restart (Before Running Free Memory Utility), 51.4GB Free
After Running Free Utility, 7.63GB Free
Pretty much all of it has went towards "App Memory"

Essentially, running this utility it is eating ram, rather than freeing it....
MacOS Activity Monitor also reports the same metrics.

Can anyone else replicate the same issue, or know a fix?

Thanks all!

Yes, exactly the same issue here. Installed Tahoe last night and now Free memory doesn't work. It appears to start in the usual way by reducing free memory, but no longer flushes memory and stays at its lowest RAM point. This is on a MacBook Pro M2 Max 64gb ram.

Steve.

Same issue, I think it is a visual bug. The memory utility gets stuck after the progress bar moves all the way to the right and doesn't come back. Activity Monitor -> Force Quit - Restart Free Memory and it reports correctly. Tahoe 26.0 | M2 Studio

M4 64GB. Same here. Free memory app is malware now. (Not intentionally, I'm sure.)

This is happening for me too since I installed Tahoe. Macbook Air M2 with 24 gig of ram. It goes backwards when I free up memory!

same issue for me, free memory takes up all free memory, and won't release until the Mac is rebooted lol

I've found that, whilst the app doesn't show released memory at the end of its cycle, it's freed when the app is closed. So, for me, it does what it's meant to do, but needs to be closed to allow it to complete.

Same here - having been hoping for an update - use this often... No love, but quiting the program and restarting does work.

64gb/M3 Max

Free Memory is still very damaged in Max OS 26.1. Quitting and running other third party memory clean apps (like from FIPLAB) will fix the problem without having to reboot.

On Tahoe 26.2 installation / i9 Intel try to start my W10/11 VMs the Sytem mostly says "not enough Memory to start XXX". There is plenty of room on my hard disc and 64GB installed RAM - What's wrong? Asking always for tiny ammounts of freeing up space. (837MB etc.) ?????

Free Memory still broken in Tahoe 26.4 Mac Mini M4 Pro with 64gb. Clean boot-up, 57gb free. Immediately run Free Memory and memory is reduced to about 9gb. @Avinash Bundhoo - any updates on when this will be fixed?

Thank you for the link to the tool Update log Adarsh. This is probably one of the most used tools your customers use, to that end is this being given any priority? I hate to say this but Memory Meter 3 by FipLab is clean, fast and automated with thresholds if you want.
