Failed to init virtual machine monitor

I just installed Parallels Desktop on my mac and I can't seem to get it to work. Everytime I try to run a virtual machine I get an error:

Failed to init virtual machine monitor.

Parallels Desktop cannot start the virtual machine. Please contact the Parallels support team for assistance.

No matter what guest OS I use, it simply won't run. Any ideas? I would like to get this working.

I take it this is not a common problem? I just installed Parallels Desktop 7, go through the wizard to setup a new machine and I get that error near the end of the wizard no matter which guest OS I choose.

I would like to purchase Parallels Desktop 7 but I'm hesitant to buy it and get no help on the matter.

Any word on what may be causing the issue? I've re-installed it a few times and I still have no luck. It's a bit frustrating as I'd really like to try it out and more than likely purchase it.
 
Do I need to pay to get support, or could you tell me where I could go to get some support? I hope you can understand my frustration.

Is there any additional information I can provide you with?
 
Glad I'm not the only one having this issue, but it sucks we still have no idea what could be causing it. At this rate my trial will expire before I even get a chance to try it out.

VMware fusion works fine, may end up going with that but I've heard Parallels offers better 3D acceleration... sigh.
 
Could be worse buddy. I've already paid :-/
The odd thing is it was all working fine til a couple of months ago.
May just switch to VMWare myself.

fyi -- the 3D is much better on Parallels. When it works.
 
Interesting, I was just about to consider paying for it to see if that fixes the issue... Looks like it doesn't.

It's an odd error for sure, I can't figure out what could possibly be causing it.

Are you by chance using more than one monitor?
 
Nope. Just the one. It's really inexplicable. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and even reformatting my hard drive and starting my whole system from scratch. No dice thus far.
 
Hmm I wonder if we'll get any response as to what may be causing the issue, considering it's been almost 2 weeks since the initial thread...
 
Well I decided to give Parallels 6 a try, and basically whenever I attempt to start a virtual machine my entire computer reboots...

Could you please save hardware info
sysctl -a hw > hw.txt
and send hw.txt to me
Also problem report for Parallels Desktop 6 issue could help us too.

Perhaps there's a driver conflict? I wonder what drivers it may affect...

Thank you for your kind assistance! Your info is very helpful. We have registered only 4 cases of a kind and we lacks specific diagnostics. Could please prepare for us additional specific info? We'd need "sysctl machdep > machdep.txt".

For now it really looks like your Mac goes a little bit crazy since it has reported a cpu speed different from the one available in the model description. Have you installed some specific boost software? Do you have some specific hardware? Is it Apple Mac or Hackintosh?

Thank you for your cooperation. The problem is rare and we are really interested in fixing it to make our product better and our customers more satisfied with Parallels quality.

I am actually running a hackintosh and the cpu is over-clocked in the BIOS. I wonder if that's the problem... Didn't think of that.
