Do I need Windows anti-virus too?

I've installed Parallels and XP, and have it working. I'm wondering if also need to get Windows anti-virus (in additon to my Mac antivirus)?

Yes you need it, although I have never been attacked by a virus - but I don't use e-mail or browser much on XP.

I recommend AVG free edition.
 
Yes absolutely...

Not just anti virus, anti spyware as well. I had an instance where my windows was attacked by spyware and i had to delete the VM (thankfully did not loose the data..)

Kapersky isn't that bad either if Windows does not do much on the Internet... It's built into 3188 now too.

Remember, people with bad browsing habits can have spyware infect their computer with the top notch software, people with good habits can run no software and a patched system with a good router can be safe... Most of the time.
 
Yes, you will need anti-virus as well as anti-spyware. My recommendations are:

Norton SystemWorks (not any other package and not Norton Anti-Virus alone).
Ad-Aware
SpyBot

Ad-Aware and SpyBot are available as free shareware. Some people don't like Norton but I support Windows systems worldwide and wouldn't touch a Windows system for support that didn't have NSW installed.
 
I like Norton as well, for a paid solution. It has trashed my computers before, yes, it is a memory hog, but it works great. I now just use it for routine scans on computers, then get a firewall and router in between the Windows computers running Kapersky for live threats. No problems as of yet. And only getting one SystemWorks keeps the costs down.

I would say it works pretty well. It scores decently on tests. Use one of the 'big ones' if you are not a 'safe browser'... Hate to be crass on the forum, but people who visit underground and/or pr0n sites need heavy security, I am not one who condones that, but it's up to you to know yourself.
 
In my mind, I typically think of the big ones as either a MacAfee or Norton suite, not just an anti-virus piece of software.

This reccomendation differs by each person you speak with... Just stay away from OneCare. :P

When you say not just antivirus, are you referring to AVG?

you need all the standard windows good house keeping habits

firewall and ante-spyware too

a VM is just another windows OS machine with all the same advantages (except very high end graphics for games) and disadvantages
