Ctrl- for deleting rows not working in excel after upgrade

The Ctrl- shortcut for deleting rows is not working in excel after a parallels upgrade yesterday. This is causing major losses in my productivity. I've tried everything:
1. Parallels prefs: set mac OS X system shortcuts to always
2. Optimised keys for games

None of the above things is solving the issue.. please help
