Copy and paste does not work in Parallels 5

Copy and paste worked fine for me in Parallels 4, but it does not work in Parallels 5. When I copy text in Leopard (10.6.2) and try to paste in Windows XP using the Mac keyboard command (command-v), it only deposits the letter "v." I don't want to have to use the awkward PC keyboard commands. Please tell me how to get copy-and-paste working again in Parallels 5. (Yes, I already re-installed Parallels Tools, and that makes no difference.)

Thank you!

Same problem here.

Upgraded from Parallels 3. Copy/Paste only works with right click and contextual messages. :(

Hi,

You said that you're trying to paste into Windows by using command-v. You need to use the paste command that corresponds to the system you're trying to paste into. So, if you're trying to paste into Windows, you use cntl-v. If you're trying to paste into OS X, you use command-v. The same goes for the cut command.

Mike
I don't think that's true. In Parallels 4, I could cut and paste in both systems using Mac's command-x and command-v. I want that functionality back.

you can turn on key mappings in the Parallels settings (general settings, not the VM specific settings) that allow you to map ctrl-x to cmd-x. Then you can use cmd-x in Windows. (Applies to ctrl-v, ctrl-c as well.)

is it normal, that i can only copy and paste text via key-commands, not files or directories? these i can only copy via drag & drop...

I've only tried ctrl-x and ctrl-v with files and folders. But since the key combinations are mapped at the keyboard level, cmd-x and cmd-v should also work with files and folders, not only with text. I haven't tried that, though. Anyone else, maybe?

This is also not working for me in v5.0. I cannot get it to work either from Mac to Windows or from Windows to Mac. I tried using both the keyboard shortcuts as well as the context menu. It was working before I upgraded.

This is broken for me, too in Parallels 5. Ctrl+V, Cmd+V, and right-click context menu all fail. I copy from the Mac, and when I paste in the Windows side, it causes the application I'm pasting in to hang and I have to kill the task. Parallels says that my Parallels Tools are outdated, but I can't get Parallels to update.

Just lost copy and paste into Snow Leopard

Everything was working fine, but now it's not.

Copy and paste within Windows is working fine.

Copy and paste in Snow Leopard is fine.

Data isn't getting transferred over. Paste from Outlook into Pages is putting the last cut/copy operation data from Mac into the text, not the last copy/cut from Windows.

Help?

when you have the appropriate key mappings turned on in the general Parallels settings and copy-paste still doesn't work you may have to check whether Parallels Control Center is working in windows.

Cut and paste doesn't work in either direction. The literature doesn't say anything about unique key mappings. Google searches show various Parallels announcements which simply say 'it works.' I can't seem to find the Parallels tools control window or the above control center in windows. It would nice for a spokesperson from Parallels to 'own' this problem until it is satisfactorily addressed.

I have three licenses fr Parallels and have never gotten acceptable support. They do want your money though to talk to a human.

I have the same problem as JonI and am waiting here for a fix to be given. Does Parallels monitor these threads?

I have Parallels 5, Snow Leopard, Windows 7. Copy / Paste worked with Parallels 4 but not now with 5.

- Windows copy/paste works within Windows, Mac works within Mac,
but not across to the other environment.

I've tried CTL-C/P, CMD-C/P and menus, it's only within the same context and not across.

Please help. Does this work within VMWare? Is it time to change? ;-)

While "copy" is CTRL-C (on Mac: CMD-C), "paste" isn't CTRL-P but rather CTRL-V (on Mac: CMD-V).

Copy-paste does work. If it doesn't make sure your VM is running the latest Parallels tools. If you can't get them to update, go to your Windows Software control panel, deinstall the Parallels tools, restart the VM, and choose "Install Parallels tools" from the Parallels "Virtual Machine" menu.

And yes, Parallels is monitoring these threads, even though they may take a while to chime in.

Yes it does work in VMware. I've switched and have moved on.

Copy/paste works after reinstall of Parallels Tools

I experienced the same problems with Parallels with copy/paste between Windows and Mac applications after my initial installation of Parallels 5. Once I reinstalled Parallels Tools, the feature worked just fine. To copy/paste I used command-c, and command-v and voila, they worked.

LAck of consistency

I have just run across this lack of copy/paste. It has worked in the past and may well work again if I exit the VM and restart Parallels. It is just so annoying to have to do that. Right now I am trying to copy/paste from a pdf file opened in Adobe Reader on the Mac side and pasting into Firefox 3.6 on the Windows side. It pastes only what was previously copied on the Windows side.

Parallels has other inconsistent, bizarre behaviour. Recently, I have noticed the CAPS LOCK key works backwards. That is, the light is on when the CAPS LOCK is off and the light is off when CAPS LOCK is on (i.e. what happens when I type). That is corrected by a reboot. This is really stupid stuff.

I am not running the March 9 update as it prevented a Windows app from saving a file to a mounted Mac folder.

Fusion had its own issues which is why one reason I chose to buy Parallels 5 rather than the upgrade on Fusion. (Prime reason being the cost of $20 after rebates). It is very annoying that these little gotchas pop up in Parallels on a regular basis.

Hi,

I'm also experiencing the same problem with C&P, as well as window resizing (the desktop does not resize when I resize the window)... I just submitted a report. Did anyone experience it with Parallels 5.0.9344 under Mac OS X Leopard (with an Ubuntu 9.10 host) ?
