I've searched the forums and am surprised that more people are not having the issue i'm having. My internet connection through Parallels, running Windows XP, is fickle. It may work for a while and then it cuts out completely. The only way to get it back going is to disconnect and reconnect the network adapter until it reconnects. This is a regular practice on my part.

I have the latest build of Parallels and I have tried every combination under the network adapter (shared+ethernet, host+ethernet, Shared+airport, you get the idea...) and none fix the problem. I keep it at default and i disconnect and reconnect until i have internet connection.
 
Breadman: Well, all of a sudden I'm having a similar problem too...I can't connect to my network. Left on Friday, came back on Monday and it won't work. I've tried all the network adapter setups just like you, no firewall, even opened a support ticket with the Parallels people but have only heard from them once and that was at 1-something in the morning 2 days ago. I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of response as I can't get anything done without network connectivity.

My host OS (iMac) sees the network and I can even connect to the internet on the windows OS, but no network...If you figure out your problem let me know...I'm working with the latest build and version as well...guess I'm going to have to trash it all and reinstall...

Similar problems with fickle network and lost network adapter

I had the same problem the last couple of days. My VM runs Vista and my MB runs Leopard; all updated versions. Not sure how it started. To fix it started by repairing my permissions on my MB that seemed to work when I rebooted my VM. The network was found again. HOWEVER, there was an additional network connection that was created. It was a public unmanaged network. I disabled it and then I lost my original connection. Now the VM is saying that there is no network adapter installed. I've seen a couple of fixes for the network adapter problem so I'm going to try that later and see if it works. Apparently, network settings have become very fickle lately.
 
Crazy thing is...I dumped everything Parallels...uninstalled and reinstalled...Windows XP and everything and still no network! So I reinstated the VM I had in the trash and set up one folder (the one I access the most often) as a parallels shared folder and that works. But still no network. We have a really small office with only about 8 machines on the network and I'm the network administrator so I know nobody has jacked with anything! Gremlins....that's what I think.

Yes there is Anti-Virus...no third party Firewall...

I've done the ipconfig stuff already. I pinged the parallels website...here's my support ticket number so you can see all of that:

Hello Pamela,

As I can see from the screenshots you have sent us, Internet is accessible in your virtual machine -- our webhost was pinged successfully. The cause of the issue is that remote network place, please contact your local network area administrator, most probably there is Active Directory running.

As a workaround you can try the following:

1. Set the virtual machine back to Shared networking, if it did not help then run 'ping www.parallels.com' from Start -> Run -> cmd once again (in Shared networking mode)

2. Try to reconnect that network place using Add Network Place Wizard from the side-pane on the left side of Network Places folder (please note that you should know IP address/location in order to add it)

Uninstall antivirus, or set correct settings, this may be the cause of limited connectivity.

Well, the settings were never an issue before - but I will turn it off and see what kind of difference that makes.

I apologize about the leaving that info on my last post...it was completely unintentional.

What else can I try? I have created a work-around by setting up these folders I use daily as Parallels Shared Folders, but it seems quite slow compared to the speed I had when working directly over the network.

Parallels Nat sapter is not active
check following:
Parallels Desktop - Preferences -Network that DHCP is enabled on Parallels NAT adapter
Also check that in System Preferences Network - Parallels Nat adapter is set to DHCP
 
All of what you told me to check is already checked or enabled...I just can't understand what in the world changed from a Friday afternoon to a Monday morning to screw everything up.

Please, check the following parameters:

1. make sure, that Server and Workstation services are running (on Windows side click Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services). Computer Browser service should be enabled and set to automatic

2. as I can see on screenshots in the ticket - you have two antivirus programs installed. Would you please, remove them with Start -> Control Panel -> Add and Remove Programs tool

3. please, try to access computers from your network by IP addresses from Explorer like this:

\\10.55.55.1\production

4. check the TCP/IP settings -

Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
find the correspondent network connection (Parallels Network Adapter)
right-click on it -> Properties -> TCP/IP -> Properties -> Advanced -> WINS
enable LMNHOSTS lookup and choose Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

If there is still no access to local network from Windows, then, please, provide us with a screenshot of your "Add and Remove Programs" window opened (with Show updates checkbox ticked) to see what software might else prevent your system from working properly.
 
Ok...let me try to explain this further...here's what I can and can't do:

Facts:
1. Small mixed network consisting of 6 Windows PCs, 1 running Vista, 5 running XP Pro and 3 iMacs, 2 PowerPC, 1 Intel running 10.5 Leopard and Parallels 3.0 (build 5608) running XP-Pro connected via Ethernet 10/100 switch to a DLink DI-624 router and cable modem for Internet access.
2. There is no server, Windows or Mac.
3. Target Windows PC with XP-Pro contains critical audio files created and maintained by Adobe Audition. These files are shared to all other PCs and Macs on the internal network.
4. Target critical audio files are both readable and writable from all other Windows PCs and Macs (using Mac OS and Finder).
5. iMac Intel running Leopard 10.5 and Windows XP-Pro and Parallels 3.0 build 5608 and Adobe Audition is used to maintain critical audio files on Target Windows XP-Pro PC.
6. Suddenly, neither Parallels Shared Folders nor Adobe Audition running under Parallels can read or write the critical audio files on the Target Windows PC. Error - You may not have Permission to Read /Write these folders/files.
7. The problem is obviously with Parallels since I can read/write the critical files on the Target Windows PC from all other Windows PC and iMacs.
8. The only use of Parallels is to run Adobe Audition on the Intel iMac to maintain the critical audio files on the Target Windows PC.
9. All Windows PCs and iMacs have Internet access.
10. Intel iMac running Windows XP-Pro in Parallels has Internet access.
11. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels 3.0 and reinstalled Windows XP-Pro and still have the problem.
12. Only the XP-Pro installation running under Parallels 3.0 has the problem accessing the critical files.
13. Everything was fine until it suddenly stopped working last week.

Any ideas? Thoughts?
