Class not registered

I have been running Windows on Parallels for a number of years and it works great. However, after the last update to Parallels-20 I can no longer start MAC applications (like Preview) from a Windows application "Total Commander". I get the message "Access denied on this pdf file" along with "Class not registered". I have tried several things to repair this, like re-registering DLLs, but everything failed to far. What can I do to fix this ?
 
I encountered a similar issue with Parallels Desktop after its update to version 20. My concern is with opening files stored on my Mac from Windows applications in the virtual machine, particularly when these files are linked to macOS applications.

Here are some important details:

  • The problem occurs when my Windows application (developed with WinDev) or other Windows programs try to open files associated with macOS applications via Parallels Desktop.
  • For example, if I associate .txt files with TextEdit on macOS, a Windows program attempting to open this file generates the error "Class not registered."
  • In contrast, opening these files through a Windows application in the virtual machine (like Notepad for .txt) works perfectly.
  • I can also access these files without any issues via the Windows File Explorer or terminal.
  • My applications run with administrative privileges.
  • I even created a new virtual machine, but the problem persists, indicating that it is not related to my original configuration.
I checked the permissions and settings of Parallels Desktop without finding a solution. I suspect there is an issue in how system calls are managed between Windows applications and Parallels when opening files associated with macOS applications.
 
I'm having the same issue, also on Parallels 20. Hope they can find a fix as this significantly diminishes the usability of Total Commander if you're stuck opening windows only apps.
