Cannot link to VPN in macOS X VM running through Sierra

I'm running an old version of 4D v12.0 which is not compatible with OS updates following Yosemite.
Unfortunately my new system is now Sierra as standard and I am trialling Parallels to run a El Capitan OS to get around the problem.

El Capitan is running smoothly as a VM and I have 4D installed, but to access the database I need to use a VPN connection.
I cannot seem to be able to get this to setup and connecting through the VM and I would really appreciate any help/advice.

usually, while VM is in Shared Networking mode, it sees the VPNd network.

If you need to setup VPN connection inside VM, then usually it should work also while Shared Networking. But you can try to switch to Bridged networking
