Cannot launch parallels

Help!?!? I cannot launch parallels desktop, no matter what I try. I have tried the fix listed on this site ( using disk utility, et) but still not working. I get the error message that the application has quit unexpectedly. The OS X & other applications are not affected. I have uninstalled & reinstalled a few times. I'm afraid that I will lose the data in my virtual machine, too.
Any suggestions???

I'm using an iMAC, MAC OS X, version 10.5.3 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2Duo
Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac
Windows XP is the guest OS

Thank you!

Sounds good.

Can you open your Console to see the logs. Start Parallels, then look at the error messages in the console logs and post them back here?

I'm not sure how to do this. There is a very long "problem detail" message that comes up but I am unable to copy/paste it into the reply box. It comes up when I go through Applications/Parallels/Parallels Desktop. The program won't launch into anything other than this error message. It gives me the option to ignore problem details relaunch
The relaunch option obviously doesn't work!
Thanks for the assistance.

Can you do a print screen and then post the image of the error message?

To start the Console you can go to your Utilities folder inside your Applications. There you will find it. It is the log manager.

Hi Dillon,

Well, it looks like I won't be able to help you. However, you have in your log a very clear request to send the log file to parallel for further analysis.

However, you seem to have lots of strange messages. You have lots of connectivity errors with your email, firefox, even iPhoto. Do you have a clean configuration in your mail software?

Thank you!

But what memory allocations?
RAM?

empty space on hard disks?
both actual and virtual?

Win Xp needs SP 3 ?
30 gb minimum VM in my view
500 to 1024 mb RAM ?

I am sticking with 10.4.11 on my 2 year old MacBook Pro

If I was to uninstall both Parallels and Windows XP, would I loose the data I have in the Windows based programs?? I have quite abit. I could try reinstalling both again, if the data remains intact.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi,

If you uninstall Parallels you will not lose any data.
If you uninstall Windows (in this case as far as I understand it would mean removing windows VM) you will lose Windows data.

However it is not likely that removing Windows VM will help in this case since Parallels quits even before you try starting/editing your VM.

There may be a problem with not correctly starting drivers from Parallels so I gues you should try removing Parallels Desktop completely including its kext files as suggested in the following article (not sure if you tried these exact steps):
http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790

Also make sure to install latest Parallels build (5608) on step 7:
http://www.parallels.com/en/download/trial/desktop/

Hope this helps.
