can you download windows 7 onto your mac before you can run it on parallels

I purchased a downloadable windows 7 from microsoft is it possible to download on my mac to then install on parallels?

Sure, if it downloads as a .ISO file, save it somewhere on your Mac, then start Parallels, click File menu->New, and point it to your file.
