(thanks to a hunch and a search engine) Do not connect the external drive to the guest (Windows) VM -- instead connect it to the host (macOS) In macOS Preferences, Enable permission for the Parallels Desktop to access plug-in drives In Mac System Preferences]... [ Security & Privacy > Privacy > Parallels Desktop.app > Files and Folders > Removable Volumes]: ( Default: [No], change to: [Yes] ) Reference: https://www.parallels.com/blogs/parallels-desktop-macos-permissions/
