Cannot access Parallels menu to make changes

I am having problems following the suggestions because every time I start Parallels, it automatically launches de XP VM which then freezes with the BSOD. Unfortunately I never get access to the menus in Parallels so I can change the number of CPUs.

Is there anyway I can prevent Parallels from automatically launching the XP VM so I can make the suggested changes?

Thank you,

D.

This is what I'm seeing in the console. The kernel messages just keep going on forever.

I tried moving the pvm file out of the way and opening it as a separate VM. Now when windows attempts to start it says that the PVM contains no bootable operating system!@#!@

I moved a few things around and now when I attempt to open my old Windows VM a dialog pops up that says that the filesystem is corrupt. Please help.

Solve my problem

Please do the following:

1. Shut down your virtual machine if it is started now.
2. Set virtual machine CPU number to 1 in VM configuration. To do this, open Virtual Machine menu->Configure... and set "1" in "Processors" drop-down.
3. Start the virtual machine. This time it will boot normally.
4. Login and wait until Parallels Tools are installed.
5. After Parallels Tools are installed, it is safe to return the previous CPU amount.

Solve my blue screen problem as well. I think parallels team should put this fix into next patch.

Thanks

Reducing number of CPUs to 1 did allow me to use my Parallels 4 VM finally, and Parallels Tools is now installed, but I cannot change the number of CPUs from the 1, the option is greyed out. And how many is the optimal number to use (my Mac has 8).
