Basic question: how do I install with Boot Camp?

I feel like an idiot for asking, but I cannot find a simple step by step. How do I install Parallels so it uses the Boot Camp version of XP on my MacBook Pro?

When I use the Paralells assistant it tries to install XP from a disk - is there an option to tell Paralells to look into Boot Camp?

Why yes there is! When creating a new virtual machine, select the third choice (advanced or such), then "XP," then on the following screen you can chose to use Bootcamp as the VM.
 
OK - I am being a moron.

1) I launch Parallels.app
2) The OS Installation Assistant launches
3) I choose the third option 'Custom OS Installation' like you said
4) On the next screen I choose Windows as the OS and Windows XP as the Guest OS Version (no option for Boot Camp that I can see)

What am I missing?
 
You're on the right track- Select Windows & Windows XP on your (4) step and proceed to the next step where it will allow you to chose Bootcamp as your installation.

Well...

The next step asks me how much memory to allocate to the new virtual machine. After that it asks me if I want to create a virtual hard disk image, then what format I want that image to have (e.g. Expanding Format).

Sorry for being dense, but I am not seeing a Boot Camp option. I am worried that I'll just keep clicking until I see it and I am creating new virtual hard drives all over my nice clean Mac :)

Oh! That is probably because you are not using a BETA. Using the Bootcamp partition is not available in an official release just yet. So if you want to use Bootcamp, download the latest BETA. From the looks of it, you're not going to get any more support from us or Parallels by using the latest official version instead of the latest BETA, so go for it.

But Lippy, do yourself a huge favor and backup your Bootcamp installation before playing with it in a BETA. If you do more reading on the forum, you'll see why I say this. And make sure you read and understand the notes that come with the announcements of the new BETAS.

Ah - that makes a ton of sense. I did an update check from within Parallels and it said I had the latest, but it must not auto DL the latest BETA.

I'll manually DL the BETA and give it a go. Thank you so much for taking the time.

And thanks for the warnings - I have nothing on my Windows partition but Windows itself, so nothing to lose.

Perhaps, but taking the time to re-install Bootcamp and XP is time consuming itself. Not to mention activating Windows with a phone call.
 
Well, Atomic, I am posting this from IE running in Parellels off my Boot Camp instance of XP.

You just plain rock.

Installing Beta 3 made this frighteningly simple - done in 60 seconds.
