Backup issue for Mac and Window

Morning guy, I am a newbie in Mac and now considering to buy iMac (with install Parallels for Window), would like to ask something

- For backup, can I buy 1 external HD to backup both Mac and Window ? I surf a bit and seem need to partition HD into 3 parts,1 for OS X System and another for Mac data and then Window data

Seem very complicated, can anyone current user share what to do ? Thanks
 
Hi Ray,
One of the ways to back up your virtual machines is to use the Time Machine Utility, it's one of the easiest ways to keep your computer safe. To optimize settings to backup Virtual Machines using Time Machine, please follow the instructions given at http://kb.parallels.com/8827
 
Tks but how about Window ? As plan to buy iMac and then buy Parallel desktop for Mac, then also Window, then what to do for backup for these 2 different system in one machine ?

To take a back up of your Mac side as well as your Windows Virtual Machine on Parallels Desktop, you can use the Time Machine back up. Time Machine will back up both your Mac side and Windows Virtual Machine. Make sure " Do not backup with Time machine check box is "Unchecked" in the Virtual Machine configuration.

It is not necessary to create a separate partition on the external hard drive to back up your Windows Virtual Machine.

Thanks and can u pls give me links for Manoj@Parallels of this article ?
For restore, then can simply put into either PC or Mac, OR must be Mac in Parallel

Also would like to ask, after I install Parallel, can I install those Window software (like Photoshop, Arobact) as I hv these licences, thanks again

Hi Abrasha,
We have not reported any such issues so far of not being able to back up the Virtual Machine in Parallels Desktop 10.
Could you plz try to Lock the settings from the lock icon in the left bottom corner of the tab after changing them and check if the issue still persists.
In case if the issue still persists then please uninstall Parallels Desktop by moving it to trash and then:
Open Disk Utility and run a permissions repair on your startup volume:
  • Select your MacintoshHD on the left side of the window, select "First Aid" tab on the right side.
  • Click 'Repair disk permissions'.
  • After this is complete, close Disk Utility.
After doing this please re-install Parallels Desktop 10 on your Mac by following this knowledge based article below.

After performing all of these steps, please check if the issue still persists.

Yep. It persists. Locking the config makes no difference.

I am most definitely not going to do that. I spent about half a year trying to get my printer to work with PD. After dozens of emails back and forth and even several phone calls with a guy from India, I finally have my printer working with PD, ... kind of. It's a half assed work around, but at least it works.

I am not going to risk having to go through that again.
