Accessing Photos

I use Windows XP in Parallels on a new Mac.

I have all my pictures in the Windows version of Photoshop Elements, on the Mac. I want to import the photos into iPhoto, on the same Mac.

But of course when I try to "find" the pictures from within iPhoto, it doesn't recognize the virtual "C" drive created by Parallels.

I know that I could copy of the photos from the virtual "C" drive onto a DVD, and then import into iPhoto from the DVD. But is there a way to get the photos into iPhoto directly from the virtual drive?

Could you please attach a screenshot of the Shared Folders section from the VM Configuration Editor?

MarkRoderick, to get access to the C: drive from Mac you should share Windows folders to Mac.

Please open your virtual machine Configuration Editor. For this you should launch Parallels but not start Windows. If it starts automatically, keep holding Apple (Command) button when clicking Parallels icon to launch the program.

The Configuration Page of the VM appears. To edit the VM configuration click "Configuration".

You will see a list of virtual hardware. Click "Shared Folders" and check the settings.

I would appreciate if you could attach a screenshot.

I took a screen shot of the Configuration screen, but even when I shrink the file it's still larger than the 19.5KB allowed by the site. Can you tell me what I should be looking for?
 
The picture I believe you're talking about is located at page 184 of my User Manual. My screen doesn't look exactly the same as the screen in the manual. The left half is identical, but the right half of my screen is divided vertically between "Share Windows Folders to Mac" in the upper half and "Share Mac Folders to Windows" in the lower half.

In the "Share Windows Folders to Mac" part, there are check marks next to "All Windows Disks" and "Mount Virtual Disks to Mac Desktop." There is no check mark next to "Enable Spotlight Processing."

At the very bottom there is check mark next to "Map Folder to Drive Letters."

I would have thought that because "Share Windows Folders to Mac" is checked, I would be able to "see" my Photoshop Elements photos from iPhoto. But obviously there's something I'm not doing.

Thank you for the information. I will ask our engineers to check. I could not find the way to browse from iPhoto to the virtual hard drive too.

Why don't you drag-n-drop the photos from the mounted C: drive on Mac side and then browse to them from iPhoto?

I don't understand why you mean by "drag-n-drop. . . .from the mounted C: drive on the Mac side. . . ."

On the Mac side, there isn't a C: drive, right? Isn't the C: drive only on the Windows side?
 
Mark, when you start Parallels, the C: drive gets mounted on Mac side if "Share Windows Folders to Mac" option is enabled in the VM Configuration Editor.
