Hi, I normally share specific folder on my mac to Windows 11, i.e. Users/name/project-folder-x > share to windows > "D:" Question is: - what is the penalty of doing so vs. having the files local on the VM "C:" How much slower is file access via shared folder

I'm reaching out because both of my Windows systems seem to be corrupted. One was primarily for my university work, and the other for gaming. I'm really concerned about my files--are they permanently lost? Is there anything I can do to recover them or fix the issue?
