Files and folders on Mac Desktop disappeared after installation of Parallels

This afternoon I bought a copy of Parallels from the company ($79/year subscription version) and installed it on my MacMini (M1, 16 GB ram, Sequoia 15.3.2). Installation went well and I toyed around with Windows for a few minutes and left the computer running. After an hour or so, I came back, opened the Solitaire game, and that's when I noticed that all the files and folders I had been keeping on my Mac Desktop had totally disappeared! Not in the Trash either. Tried re-starting the Mac, but they're still gone. They were probably gone before I opened Solitaire, but I didn't notice.
Any suggestions?

Collect a technical report (click Parallels icon || > Help > Send technical data > check "Attach screenshots..." > press Send Report) and send the report's 9-digit ID
