Hi, we use Parallels Desktop in the company for more that 10 years and we have several computers/users which change from time to time but the licenses stay as is and they almost all are absolutely different. I need help urgent to clear what is diffenence between them. We use Parallels Desktop only for some Windows application to work on. We do not have any developers etc. So we need a "normal" licenses. My questions: (1) What is the difference between "Subscription license" (annual payment) and "Permanent license"?? The price is not to much different... (2) If we have a "Subscription license", should we pay for Upgrade? (3) Is there any opportunity to follow which aktive license (subscription) got an upgrade? Example: Jack Hollow had a subcsription license AAA with annual payment. He got an upgrade and the license AAA changed to the license BBB. Can we see somewhere which license key he had before? (4) why do all upgrades cost different?... see attach Thank you! KR, Bjarne
Hello Bjarne, I'm happy to answer your inquiries. 1. The subscription model is a license type that requires annual payment and provides you with free upgrades to future Parallels Desktop versions (major and minor) at no additional charge. Once a new version is released, you will simply need to download it from the Parallels website or update your copy of Parallels Desktop. It also includes phone and chat support throughout the whole period of the subscription validity. Lastly, you get bonus software: Parallels Toolbox and Parallels Access which are valid for the duration of your subscription. Permanent licenses on the other hand do not provide you with free upgrades to future versions of Parallels Desktop. The user is locked to the version of Parallels Desktop they purchased e.g. Parallels Desktop 19 and will not be able to upgrade to version 20 for free without purchasing what is known as an Upgrade license. 2 & 3. As explained above, subscription users do not need to pay any additional cost for Parallels Desktop upgrades, they come free of charge. However, should the user wish to move from one Parallels Desktop edition to another e.g Parallels Desktop Standard Edition to Parallels Desktop Pro Edition, they are required to purchase an upgrade license to complete the switch. After this is done, the user does not need to purchase any additional upgrades and the only payment required is their annual payment. 4. Prices are subject to review over the years.
