Hi - Help -> Send tech does not work, nothing happens. Tried the terminal command "prlsrvctl problem-report --send" which fails with:

Jul 24 08:21:27 pdfm-bootstrap[9430] <Error>: prlsrvctl[9394]: Failed to initialize Parallels Desktop in unattended mode.

This may be caused by ether corrupt installation or if you just installed Parallels Desktop.

In order to initialize Parallels desktop ether:

1. Start Paralles Desktop by double-clicking to Parallels Desktop bundle, or

2. Run following initialization procedure from command line:

sudo "/Applications/Parallels Desktop.app/Contents/MacOS/inittool2" init -b "/Applications/Parallels Desktop.app"


Then I tried the "sudo "/Applications/Parallels Desktop.app/Contents/MacOS/inittool2" init -b "/Applications/Parallels Desktop.app"" which also fails with error "Fatal: this is not OS X"
Also tried to re-install latest app - no change.

Hello, - I updated to Big Sure Beta 3 and receive the same error message when trying to open or install Parallels. I ran the same commands and receive the same fatal error.

Followed https://kb.parallels.com/en/125039 and installed from Appstore - works like a charm!

 

I installed Parallels Desktop from the Apple Store. The installation worked. The problem is when I try to open the existing vm:
"It is not possible to apply restrictions in the filesystem to the virtual machine configuration."

Can anyone help me to run the existing Windows VM?

I have updated to the latest BigSur version and now I am seeing this error when attempting to start parallels:
"Parallels Desktop cannot be started because some of the required components are missing from the operating system of your Mac."

Running parallels 15.1.4-47270

 

This is a known issue with Big Sur beta 3. Launch it from terminal. You won't be able to use the GUI to change settings in your VM but you can edit the XML file directly

as a possible workaround please use the steps below:

1. Uninstall Parallels Desktop (http://kb.parallels.com/en/124255 )

2. Download Parallels Desktop App Store edition

3. Launch Parallels Desktop App Store Edition, and instead of purchasing or activating a trial click "I Have Subscription".

4. Select your existing subscription from the list and click "Activate".

I tried that. but I do not have a subscription and the license I do have won't work with the App Store version

 

Hi there Parallels,
Feeling unloved and unsupported here. The error "To complete Parallels Desktop setup, please restart your Mac." means I can't launch the app and my subscription is a complete waste. The simple statement that 16.0 fixes the launch problem is incorrect. The various suggestions in this thread don't seem to change anything.
I've wasted a huge amount of time trying to test against Parallels and really need an answer. Please help me.

Same issues here. I'm on Big Sur beta (build 20A5343i). Parallels Desktop 15 couldn't start at all (exited with no messages) so I updated to PD 16.0.0
Installation was fine but Parallels is stuck in the "restart Mac" loop and won't start.
Tried all the suggested fixes and just sent a problem report (id: 346912615)

I have the same issue. I also updated to PD 16.0.0 and am stuck in a "restart Mac" look

Same issue here. I'm on the Big Sur Public Beta (20A5343j), with a first-time install of Parallels Desktop 16.0.0. Have tried all suggestions (except for downloading from the App Store), but nothing works.

 

I contacted Parallels Support. The person had me do a bunch of stuff that did not help. She then escalated the issue and the "Second Line of the Parallels Support Team" got on it. Here is what they said and what solved the problem for me:

"The issue is caused by the presence of Virtual Box kernel extensions in the system.
So, please try uninstalling VirtualBox completely https://osxdaily.com/2019/01/25/uninstall-virtualbox-mac-completely/
"

I upgraded to Big Sur Beta 5 and still the same issue - "quit or restart" and yes, I have tried the "Virtual Box Uninstall" trick and that didn't work. Beta 5 didn't resolve my issue.

 

I had the same problem with Big Sur Beta 4 and Parallels 16. I tried all the suggestions except reinstalling MacOS and installing Parallels from the App Store. I had also deleted my Windows 10 VM to make room for Big Sur (was happy to recreate using Parallels). Used touch at terminal to create a dummy PVM file in case that helped but it didn't seem to.
What eventually worked for me was running this in terminal:

prlsrvctl shutdown

after a reboot and before starting Parallels Desktop.
This was after several attempts of sudo kextcache --clear-staging with reboots in between.
Parallels now happily running the Windows Installer.
